I heart this twine kitchen scrubber
I have a friend who sits and knits at every sporting event our daughter's attend. I'm really envious and I want to ask her to teach me how to knit. It just seems like the perfect hobby for a compulsive multi-tasker like myself. Then I saw this adorable kitchen scrubber, woven from garden twine by 3191 Miles Apart via Remodelista. It's brilliant and cute and I really want to make one. Hmmm, we do have a softball game this weekend. I'll bring my twine.

A Caddy Full of Foliage
There's something serene about decorating with plants that are all about the foliage and not the flower. When you have attractive foliage there's no need to fuss or deadhead all season. Dusty Miller is an excellent example. Though Dusty Miller (Senecio Cineraria) is supposed to be an "accent plant", I think she looks outstanding just by herself packed into our Galvanized Tin Caddy. The soft greyish-green foliage, which is very much like Lamb's Ear, has a calming quality, and it coordinates perfectly with the galvanized tin.

My Bathroom Makeover
I've been putting up with our outdated bath since we moved in
to our little farmhouse over 15 years ago.
Now, I think of any excuse to go visit by new bathroom.

the Martha Stewart Living Seal Harbor Bath Collection. The vanity has a gorgeous farmhouse style sink and plenty of storage space, which we needed. We gave the floors a country pine look and happily said "ba-bye" to the old worn out vinyl. The toilet is new, too. It's a Kohler high-efficiency toilet with water conservation. Who knew a new toilet could bring so much pleasure?
We're still working on the accessories, but my rocks from York, Maine have found a happy home here, and they seem to fit right in with their seal harbor companions.
I really like that the polished nickle has a warm tone to it
unlike some metals that appear too cool and dark for my taste.

I am so in love with my new bath that I couldn't stand looking at our other bathroom, so....look for that makeover post soon.

A Farmhouse Wares Easter

We think Easter is the perfect time to add a little farmhouse style to your decorating and gift giving ideas. Create a rustic, country style Easter Basket with our Wire Gathering Baskets or kids can put them to use while on their egg hunt. The cupcake is the perfect Easter treat because there are so many decorating options. We like the idea of just adding a simple johnny-jump-up to the top. Use our individual Cupcake Stands to show them off. You can create easy place card settings simply by adding the name of your guest to each cupcake. Finally, we think our Fondue au Chocolat makes a unique gift idea. We all love a basket that's brimming with chocolate, and this sweet treat is a crowd pleaser.

Fit for a Queen

Savannah Bee Company, makers of luxurious honey products, says, "The most precious product of the hive, Royal Jelly is a 'Cinderella' substance that turns a worker bee into a Queen...and allows her to live 40 times longer than the average bee as a result. Replete with a multitude of vitamins, proteins, lipids and sugars, this amazing natural substance is known for its nourishing and deep moisturizing properties--as well as its ability to promote skin's elasticity and a smooth appearance."
This is one worker bee who enjoys being Queen--not to mention all the benefits my skin has been enjoying. It is beautifully packaged too, which makes it a great gift, fit for a Queen (of course).

Making Maples Syrup

It's that time again! Everyone around here starts tapping for sap. I love it when I see the sap buckets in bloom. Well... now we seem to have these tubes that weave throughout the woods collecting sap instead of the old-fashioned buckets. Up the hill from my house there is a spider web of tubes that takes every drip of sap and distributes it to one main storage bin. It makes hiking a challenge. Sometimes I opt to climb over this intricate web of tubing. Sometimes I do the limbo and go under. I feel like I'm in one of those movies where the thief has to dance and weave his/her way through red laser alarm beams. Hello Ocean's 12 (or is it 11 or 13). Hello, George Clooney. I digress... (Though, I wouldn't mind having pancakes with George.) The best thing about syrup making is that it's a sure sign spring is on the way. Yes, the other great thing is that the sugar shacks will be serving up some maple goodness. I love cramming into a sugar shack on a snowy Sunday morning, smelling pancakes and bacon and wood stoves burning. It's the kind of moment in time where you might just see a community sharing its harvest, or better yet, George Clooney eating pancakes.

Chicken Report {crisis at the coop}

The coop was anything but quiet last night. Just as we were all settled in to watch the big game and with 30 minutes to kick off, my neighbor came knocking on the door. He informed us that our chickens were all over the place. They were across the road and down the street. When I looked out at the coop, sure enough, there was a dog sniffing around. We all threw on our boots and immediately went looking for our girls. Before I could even set a plan for triage, my daughter was off, chasing the dog clear across the neighbor’s yard. My husband and another neighbor found two chickens across the street and carried them home to safety. Then my daughter found another one. We had three chickens out of seven. Darkness was falling quick and the game was about to begin, so my husband abandoned the project, saying they’d come home in the morning¬—if they were alive.
I stood there under the almost full moon, waiting by the coop. Like little soldiers, two more appeared in the shadows, quietly assessing to see if the coast was clear. Now we had five. The game was on. I had to quit for the night. We figured the dog must have gotten the other two. This morning, when we opened the coop, six chickens ran out. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that one smart girl must have been hiding pretty well in the coop. We figured the dog must have gotten the last one. After all the mayhem, losing one didn’t seem so bad.
This afternoon I went out for a run, when I was stretching, something caught my eye. The last Rhode Island Red was lingering around the yard by the coop. I opened the door to the run, and she calmly walked in. Most days, that chore doesn’t go so smoothly, but today, she was happy to be home again. Even though the game didn't turn out the way we wanted, we couldn't be more thrilled with the way the crisis at the coop turned out.
